What is Toffee?

Toffee is made by boiling a sugar syrup along with either butter or cream and sometimes flour dependent upon the consistency required additional flavours are then added which is then cooled.

The History of Toffee

Like all great leaps in human evolution the origin of toffee is shrouded in mystery, one name that pops up is Harriot Hesketh from Stockport, England. one thing we are certain of is that it is a Great British creation with some believing Toffee was created in 1800s.

Legend has it that Harriot was looking for ways to use up leftover sugar from her husband's sugar refinery, how commendable she was one of the first to combat food wastage and may have been the first to have implemented the concept of recycling and just as the apple fell on or close to Isaac Newton’s head and gave birth to physics, Harriot had her own moment of divine inspiration when she boiled sugar and butter together to form a hard candy, she must have had a moment of epiphany when she added almonds to the mixture and after cooling it down called it "Hesketh's Toffee."I am certain when we have finally landed on the Mars and our descendants are tucking into some freeze dried, gunge coated pie, infused with genetically modified, radioactive, chemicals that were originally used to create explosives, historians on tasting Toffee will look back and be certain that Harriot was in deed a prophetess who was given a divine purpose by God to delight mankind with her creation which through several, very short evolutionary steps have led to Walkers Nonsuch Assorted Toffees.
